Yes I agree with Bonnie...it's not that people have changed their minds about the gripes they had, only realized that their problems were, all in all, pretty insignificant. Sometimes it takes a nasty thing like this for people to remember that life is better now than it ever has been. The complaints that people are coming up with now are really pathetic. It doesn't amount as much to "fair-weather" (or unfair-weather, if you will) patriotism, it's more "holy crap look what I have, someone wants to take it away" patriotism. It's not as much that people died (which in and of it self sucks), it's that it was caused by an act of war by an outside entity. If 5,000 people died in an earthquake or hurricane, that wouldn’t have the same effect of unity that this is having (wait, didn’t like 7,000 just die in Central America due to a hurricane?).

Every other civilized (if there is such a thing) country in the world is with us in this. They took a moment of silence in Moscow today. They even flew the Russian flag at half-staff. Think about that. 15 years ago, in all of our lifetimes, they would have been suspects. Now they are willing to help us with whatever we do against those that planned this.

The military has already started to call up 50,000 reserves, and there is talk of calling up 1,000,000 total. That’s not for a task of cleanup and defense. That’s an invasion force. A large force at that. Probably won’t happen, but that politicians are discussing it is scary enough. We all better hope that they don’t need to start a draft for whatever they come up with. Well, I don’t need to worry, they won’t take me (so there are advantages to being seven feet tall).

Ugh.

Later.
